In a few words, how would your friends describe you?
Definitely funny, honest, adventurous, and hard working!
Where did you grow up in the world, and where do you model now?
I was born in St.Petersburg Russia, but I grew up in Toronto Canada. Right now I am modeling in Toronto, but I have modelled extensively in Asia and will continue to do so, hopefully ending up in Europe.
How did you get or break into the modeling industry?
I was scouted at a grocery store when I was very young! Ever since then, I realized that modeling is my passion and something that I will never give up.
How long have you been modeling and what categories do you focus on?
I have been modeling for 10 years now and focus on beauty, fashion, commercial, and bridal.
How did you gain the confidence to become a model?
Confidence has always been my forte 😉
What was your most memorable shoot experience and why?
There is soo many! One that I remember right now is for Mama & Bebe where I was a “mom” for the day. The baby was the cutest thing ever and my job was to cradle him and continuously smile for the camera!
What would you say is your special trait or defining feature?
I definitely get the most compliments on my blue eyes and my natural eyebrows!
Could you take us through your favorite modeling pose or situational expression?
This is an interesting question! I think my favorite is smizing* and smirking at the same time. (*Smiling with your eyes – Editor, The Walks).
What is an absolute must for you to bring with you on a shoot?
Water and comfy warm clothes!
If you had any intimidating or frustrating moments, how did you overcome it?
I try to stay positive and patient, but at the end of the day, everything happens for a reason.
What’s your favorite activity or hobby when you’re not modeling?
I love to spend time with my friends, go out for some sushi, or to a cute coffee shop. I also love to write on my personal blog!
Do you have any tricks or routines for staying happy and healthy?
Of course!! Do good things for your body (eat healthy, be active, exercise).
Be positive and nice to everyone.
Never compare yourself to anyone else.
Who cares what people think!
As trends change, how do you renew your image every now and then?
I try to stay up to date with current fashion trends through my favorite bloggers and my favorite style icons.
If you study or work another job while modeling, how do you manage?
I am a good multi-tasker and very organized. It’s key to have a calendar and keep track of all your important dates!
And what would you love to be doing in 5 years from now?
Work with multiple modeling agencies across the world!
Book a job with a well known cosmetics brand.
Be published in a huge magazine such as Vogue.
Walk in the Victorias Secret Fashion Show!
Would you do anything different today if you had to start over?
No, I am happy where I am today 🙂
Insecurities and fear of rejection are taboo, but what’s your thought on it?
I think the way you see yourself is completely different than how anyone else sees you. You know yourself best so you tend to criticize yourself, while others admire your beauty. It is important to be confident in yourself as you do not need to please anyone but yourself!
If you could change anything about modeling, what would that be?
I would change the requirements of model measurements. There is so much pressure on models to be 6 feet tall and weigh 100 pounds* that there is not much diversity in models these days. (*183 cm and 45 kg – Editor, The Walks).
And what’s your best advice for aspiring models reading this?
Modeling is definitely not an easy job! You have to be passionate about it because it will show in your work. Choose an agency that is a good fit for you. Step out of your comfort zone and build connections. If you believe in yourself, do not let anybody bring you down or tell you otherwise.
Anastasia, thank you for the interview
