Petite Modeling

Petite Modeling

Petite Modeling Description

Petite modeling, also more commonly referred to by agencies as small, isn’t a specific category of modeling in itself, but more a definition of models at a certain height, typically somewhat lower than the taller mainstream fashion models.

As petite modeling isn’t an actual category, models who fit the description excel in most categories like any other model, with some rare occasions seen even in high end fashion, contrary to common belief.

New Standards

The height definition of who exactly that can be categorized as a petite model, varies depending on the source. Industry insiders in mainstream fashion modeling deem anyone at and beneath 5’7” (170 cm) as petite, while a larger consensus seem to agree on 5’5” (165 cm) to be the proper average height for a petite female model and 5’7” (170 cm) for male models.

Let’s face it, not everyone has the height requirements set by the industry to become a mainstream fashion model for the famous designers currently, far from it. However, seeing how just a dwindling fraction of today’s population fit within the height category of the models presenting the clothes, the perceptive observer might question the logic in that, seeing how modeling is a business focused on selling clothes to the average person, who in most cases are far from the standard heights of classic fashion models.

In other words, most of us are not exactly 5’10” (178 cm), so why not have models at more average heights, closer to the real representation of our demographic present the clothes we are supposed to wear. It just makes more sense both ethically and business wise.

As with plus models, there is an increase of pressure coming from a great deal of sources to change this industry standard, which in great extents has been a part of a problem, which has created a very difficult ideal for average people to reach.

Requirements

From the above you might have noticed that height is not of the essence, as opposed to qualifying for the remaining characteristic model traits true for most models, which are the classic proportionate figure, great skin and hair, as well as a great smile.
